In this case, I've switched the router to a "static DHCP" assignment at one
location and haven't yet had a problem at the other. The latter's
router is a 2Wire modem/router provided by the ISP and I haven't found
a setting for static DHCP yet. Also there are fewer devices competing
for IP addresses at the latter.

I read the Windows 7 blog post you provided and it sounds like 7's
default setting is supposed to fix the problem in most cases. If this
starts happening again I'll dig into it further.
