Hello, Assuming the hard disk drive inside the T41 is the original, it could be succumbing to wear from usage over time--I think the T41 series is about six or seven years old now?
I would suggest backing up any valuable data (if it is really valuable, make multiple backups and test one by restoring it on a different PC) and then running the CHKDSK. You may also want to download the hard disk drive manufacturer's diagnostics and run those to see what they report. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky At 06:48 PM 7/18/2010, you wrote:

T41p running Windows XP Pro. Windows -- Corrupt File Exception Processing Message C0000102 Parameters 75b6bf7c [repeated] [repeated] [repeated] [not sure if it's the same hex value or different] The file or directory C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the CHKDSK utility. Then there was another message which I haven't yet been able to see. I'm going to run a full backup if I can (using Acronis TrueImage Home) but I don't have access to Windows or software install disks while travelling. Should I just run the CHKDSK (after backing up, if it's even possible)? Is this likely a HD failure? Am I going to get into a cycle of repeated CHKDSK passes and more and more bad sectors? Any other advice, besides doing what Windows say? Thanks! -- Andrew mailto:[email protected]
