Matt, Actually I was worried that the HD may have 1 more pass in it and I'd rather burn it on a backup than a CHKDSK. I guess more accurately, do the backup before doing anything else to it.
As it turned out, I did get a backup to run on a smaller set of the data (not the entire drive) and then ran CHKDSK (/r I think). It did all 5 passes and reported no errors of any kind. But the WCF message went away. So maybe it's just a flag that gets mis-set and the CHKDSK clears it. Thanks for the feedback. I was far from home and worried about everything at that point (luckily had 2 notebooks). -- Andrew mailto:[email protected] Sunday, July 18, 2010, 5:48:11 PM, you wrote: > Well, if you're files are corrupted, it's likely the backup routine will fail > again. > Are you that hesitant to let chkdsk run & give you a report? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Andrew Webber > To: ThinkPad List > Sent: Sunday, July 18, 2010 4:23 PM > Subject: Re: [Thinkpad] T41p: "Windows Corrupt File" message > I've since clarified (i.e. been informed) that there are actually 2 > different errors.
