Hello,

Lenovo appears to have some serious engineering in the W520 with respect to
the previous model, the W510. A blog at MSDN reports power management between
6.5 and 7 hours: https://blogs.technet.com/themes/blogs/generic/post.aspx?WeblogApp=keithcombs&y=2011&m=03&d=24&WeblogPostName=the-lenovo-thinkpad-w520-i7-quad-core-has-seven-hours-of-battery-life-really&GroupKeys= NotebookReview.Com got similar results in some of their tests as well: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6106&p=4

I have the previous model, a W510. With a retail Windows 7 installation
(e.g, no Lenovo power management tools installed) it gets about 2h45m-3h00m
of runtime off the battery with lots of connected devices.

One thing to keep in mind is that the W520 is larger and heavier than the
T61. You might want to look into the lighter T520 as well.

Hello,

I am considering replacing my T61. I would like to get a model with the Trackpoint and USB3. I also want to do some graphics and a few other tasks that are slow on the T61.

It appears the W520 is the right one, but I am concerned about battery life. Workstation replacements usually means not meant for operation away from a external power source.
