I used to type like that. I've found that if I force my hands to not move
up and down, and only press the keys with my fingers, I actually type a lot
faster with fewer mistakes. I also rely more heavily on a keyboard with
good tactile feedback.

I tried typing on a MacBook Air once, and it was surprisingly good/easy.
Even though the key travel was probably less than 1mm, it had a solid snap
and feel to the keys. My only issue was the lack of concavity to the tops
of the keys.
