Have you enabled logging for the webmail extension? The time stamps for 
each entry may give a clue as to what part of the process is taking the 
time. Webmail Author would be best qualified to interpret the logs, but 
best not to send logs to him unasked. If you post log files here, remove 
sensitive information such as usernames and passwords (obvious I know, 
but just mentioned as a heads up to the less security concious readers).
