ENTER sounds quite reasonable to me, especially when in view-mode. There could be a simple *enter=true* attribute to the $edit widget which asks for that key so as to commit anything for a text input. I guess this could probably also be achieved with some sort of keyboard widget that captures that ENTER key being pressed and then some action-widget to update the field based on the input value.
