Dead right. And actually the finite nature of standard available keyboard characters is *already an issue*. For instance "backtick" is not standard on all keyboards. Italian keyboard, for instance, lacks it. User has to get round such issues by getting OS to change keyboard mapping; or learning keyboard numeric escape sequences to input characters; or using the editor "stamp" tool to hold boilerplate for it, or some other utility/method. The messiness around all this is ultimately a consequence of hardware design. One that can be relatively easily addressed. However it surely needs better adjunctive documentation to assist users understand what to do--even for existing WikiText. > Mat: The point is to access ones own look/behaviour as smoothly as with >> e.g * >> > Right. That makes it "Markdown Like" i.e. the trigger markup is simple and *readable/semantic as plain text*. Point is markdown is a simple approach to insert HTML elements (with attributes if needed, esp for classes) *in order to preserve plain text readability*. Styling is then applied via CSS in standard way. So, wanting to extend that in standard content type modestly with one or two WikiText custom elements I grasp. How? Obvious method would be a "custom pragma" that permitted definition of new character/pair of characters. But a design issue tension exists between "available characters" & "my new markup schema". Its inevitable! But that issue--paucity of characters on default setups, including variable layouts on different keyboards etc--needs addressing another way and should not be allowed to muddy the waters of the intent to achieve "Markdown Like" extensions to the pragma.
