Well, GNU autotools sometimes look quite strange but it is one of two
ways (yes, the second one is cmake) how create really portable project.
If you write your own Makefiles it is always far more ugly than
configure.ac & Makefile.ams.

Support for old autotools is drawback. I think we should check-in
autogenerated files.
