Several users had noted long delays in starting the TurboVNC Java viewer 
(which is based on the same code) as an applet under the IcedTea Java 
plugin.  Not sure if this is related, but I'm just throwing it out there 
in case using a different JRE (i.e. Oracle's) might work around the issue.
