I' ll compare the tower pc and laptop tomorrow. 
Only big difference is that my laptop uses
NetworkManager, while my tower uses if-up/if-down.

For now I tried a quick debug session with "-log 100" as you suggested. 
During the wait nothing is logged, so no clue what happens during that time.
