On this point - if Ask hasn't changed the script:  I wrote it to only send a 
single ntp request.  So network irregularities will have a big short term 
effect.

But remember that if your server doesn't have problems, you can miss 2 such 
requests completely and you're still at a score of 8.3, and so you're still 
included in the pool.  Unless you have a 'score +20.000' fetish, this won't 
harm you at all.  And since servers are only polled relatively rarely, a 
transient network error won't usually get your server excluded.
