Well said. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should
be done.
When I joined the pool and started seeing abusive behaviour, I began
working on a countermeasure almost immediately. It was a knee-jerk
reaction and, I suspect, slightly moralistic. My first efforts were
crude, but before I spent the time on something more sophisticated, I
did some logging to see how bad the problem really was.
Not bad enough for me to spend more time on it, as it turns out, and
I removed the countermeasure I'd already developed.
Wayne Schlitt's monitoring scripts are the logical first step on this
issue. I firmly believe anyone considering development of a countermeasure
should properly convince themselves it's worth it.
By all means offer what you develop to the rest of us.
