iburst is fine at restart (of a server), but can mess up drift compensation of a client that is just switched on (cold system). This is because drift of a cold system is different from drift of a system that's warmed up. The difference in drift depends on hardware, but on my (client) machine it is about 120 when cold, and 177 when at operating temperature. With a quick sync it actually takes longer for NTP to settle at 177. > and therefore have more need of the quick synchronisation > which iburst can provide. I guess for a client there is no need for _quick sync_, but to have *good time* quickly. ntpdate (or ntp with some option) provides that.
