In principle you are wrong, but in practice you are probably right. It could be done with the cooperation of every ISP and NSP between you and the origin. Your ISP snoops the traffic and says "ok, it's coming in on our link from $PROVIDER_2"; $PROVIDER_2 then takes over and walks back to the point where the traffic enters *their* network, etc. But that's what it would take, and, unless there are very few providers involved or you have a h*ll of a lot of clout, getting the necessary level of cooperation from them all will be approximately impossible. Given how ingress filtering is normally done, however, there is a good chance it's coming from within your own provider's network, in which case only their cooperation is necessary. It might be worth asking. /~\ The ASCII der Mouse \ / Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML [EMAIL PROTECTED] / \ Email! 7D C8 61 52 5D E7 2D 39 4E F1 31 3E E8 B3 27 4B _______________________________________________ timekeepers mailing list [email protected] https://fortytwo.ch/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/timekeepers
