Sorry I missed the Community IRC Meeting today but as I said I already had
other meetings previously scheduled. Anyway, I would like to contribute a few
comments to the topics:

> 2. Working Together
> 2.1. What do you think about Launchpad ?

It's ok but I don't think people know how to use it. And we need to give
suggestion to Launchpad about better search criteria. These would be very easy
for them to implement.

> 2.2. Is it clear and easy on how to contribute ?

NO! I have had ZERO success at getting good and well-tested modules and
patches adopted into the core.
My 'account_ifrs' module is enjoying hundreds of downloads and I suggested to
Tiny to have this adopted into the core but yet no progress has been made on
this.
Lately, I submitted patches that enable complete automation of the creation of
RPM packages via the 'bdist_rpm' target to setup.py. And additionally, these
patches perform all the checks for the 'openerp' server user and group, the
database connection params, the database user and db and make the appropriate
changes to the config file. This enables a total newbie who is using an
RPM-based Linux distro to get OpenERP up and running right away without all the
installation torment and pain as we see from all the posts in the Installation
forum. But again, it's been over a month since I submitted these patches and
NO PROGESS has been made to get these into the trunk.
I've also been working with the Python Distutils SIG to get patches for a new
comand 'bdist_deb' adopted for Distutils. There is good momentum behind this
initiative so it looks like these patches will make it in very soon. And once
that is done then I can create the same type of solution for the Debian-based
distros. But, again, IS IT EVEN WORTH THE EFFORT WHEN YOU CANNOT GET ANYTHING
ACCEPTED INTO THE CORE CODE?

> 2.5. Any idea on how to increase the community of Open ERP ?

Yes, start by giving the newbie, first-time user, of OpenERP a much better
experience. Toward that goal, commit my 'bdist_rpm' patches into the core.
These make for a much better installation experience for RPM-bsed distros. And
then soon we'll have this for the Debian-based distros as well.

And the V4 to V5 migration situation has been a huge turn-off to many in the
community. That situation was handled very poorly. The community should have
been warned about the difficulties and issues involved many months before V5
was released.

> 3.1. Working with Launchpad / Bazaar. Is it clear ? Do you use LP or others ?

Bazaar is very good. Launchpad is ok but needs some improvements. I think
people do not understand how to use Launchpad. And we should make suggestions
to Launchpad to improve the experience.

Regards,
Gerry
