I like Robin's recommendation for "The Design of Everyday Things" (by Donald
Norman, by the way).
These are probably too long (and expensive...), but Judith Rich Harris' book
("The Nurture Assumption") or Stephen Pinker's new book ("The Blank Slate")
would probably be excellent reads for students at that level. For neuro, I
suppose the Oliver Sacks books ("The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat")
are the obvious choices.
One of these semesters I'm going to substitute a set of such books for my
introductory text, making sure to keep the total cost and number of pages in
the same range, just to see how that works. It'd sure keep it fresh for me,
and that couldn't hurt.
