Shortly after I started at Drew, a committee was just wrapping up months and months of work to reevaluate merit pay. After all was said and done the faculty settled on... exactly what was in place before. Merit pay is $500 added to base salary. I think the amount of money available for merit varies from year to year but last year something like 1/3 of the members of the faculty received it. It is based on an annual report and can be awarded based on teaching, service or scholarship. From what I understand, one thing that changed from the previous system is that members of a department are no longer in direct competition with each other (previously the chair was asked to rank the members of the dept.).
