"Psychological Science" (admittedly not a well defined term) is usually regarded as a subset of the field of psychology (see the journal by that name), not a superset.
And (as another poster noted) listservs are not democracies; they are run by a list owner. Only he can 'invite' someone to participate. Unless Bill Southerly did in fact issued the invitation you simply enrolled yourself.
