Brown and Jenkins'discovery of autoshaping is another example, as is Breland and Breland's discovery of instinctive drift.

Curious how most of the examples we are coming up with arise from behaviorists. Skinner always advocated the "muck around in the lab and seeing what happens" approach - any my guess is that such an approach results in more "accidental" discoveries than a theory-driven approach.
