This seems to be an interesting discussion about how to do research
to support or falsify a theory; however, I think we need to go back
to what Rick Froman said two days ago and remember that Kubler-Ross's
"theory" is about the stages that a person who is dying goes through,
while the research being discussed is about the process of grief that
the survivors go through after the death of someone in their life.
These are two totally different situations, and Kubler-Ross was not
dealing with survivor's grief. I have done work with both
populations, and, anecdotally those who are dealing with their own
death do seem to follow the Kubler-Ross model, while those who are
grieving go through a different set of steps.
