i disagree - i have a bad habit of keeping my TiVo close to full.

so, every once and a while a marathon of a favorite show comes on -
let's say 9 hours. i don't know for sure whether i have 9 hours on my
TiVo, and won't be home when the marathon is on.

i can control which shows will get deleted (through protecting shows
with "save until i delete", if i haven't already), but sometimes it
would just be nice to know beforehand that i have enough space for an
upcoming taping.

uh, i mean, recording....! anyway, i use the "suggestions" feature for
that purpose - i let the TiVo record suggestions, and i know that i have
at least that much space free (roughly, since different shows of the
same length don't necessarily require the same amount of disk space).

but it would be easier if i could just find out easily that, say, 8 MB
of my 80MB TiVo is still free. sure, i won't know that 8 MB will
necessarily hold 8 hours, but i would know that if i wanted to record a
10 hour marathon, it would be wise to delete undesired shows
beforehand....and if i wanted to record 4 hours, i have nothing to worry
about.

but IGGY, you are certainly right that there are much more important
things in the world to worry about.....

Hey, do you feel our pain
And walk in our shoes?
Have you ever felt starved
Or is your belly always full?

How many people die
And hurt in your name?
Hey, does that make you proud
Or does it bring you shame?

And if our fates have all been wrapped around your finger
And if you wrote the script then why the troublemakers?
