If the unit has lifetime service it's worth fixin, that's for sure.

I have the Tivo HD, love it, dual tuners and more space (I upgraded the drive
from 160g to 320g). It's a serious step up from the Sony S1 box I was using.

Hard drives are cheap these days, you can get a 160g drive for about a hundred
bucks or less, though you should get the one set up for tivo type units (lower
rpms, and that know not to spend 15 seconds trying to get one bad bit).

Subject: [TiVo Central] Hard drive failure

Hi everyone,
Over the weekend my secondary Series 2.5 hard drive failed. This box must be
3.5 years old or so. I am now faced with what to do. I could buy Instantcake
for a 80 Gig hard drive that I am not using, about $20. Buy a new hard drive
with the OS installed for around $120. Or maybe it's time to get a new Tivo
considering I have a new HD 40" Sony TV.
I am a little strapped for cash since the holiday season but not sure that the
old Tivo is worth investing anymore in. After all I only paid $99 for
initially.
I am too cheap to pay for HD content from Comcast at this time but that may
change.
Anyway, I throw this out for suggestions. Right now I have way more problems
than I have solutions for.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
