Why go so small? I just picked up a 750GB drive for my TivoHD for the
bargain price of $149 (on sale at Microcenter). I've seen 500GB drives at
the box stores for around $119. The only question would be whether the Tivo
would recognize the larger drive or not. I don't recall which models can
(and can't) deal with +137gb drives. Is it more the OS version, or the
hardware?

Yes, the 5400 rpm drives are fine for Tivo. That and you want to be able to
set the AAM (acoustic something or other) values to keep the drive quiet.
This makes the drive slower but the Tivo really does not need (nor benefit
from) a faster drive. You'd just waste money getting a 7,200 or 10k rpm
drive.

It's a toss-up. Having two tuners is VERY nice. S2DT units can be had
pretty cheap these days.
