It may well be different - FF speeds tend to vary between brands of
DVRs.

That shouldn't happen. First thing to check is if there are multiple
line-ups for your area. You may have one selected on your TiVo that
doesn't include the channel, while another line-up has it. The
easiest place to check is Zap2it.com - it is run by TMS, the company
that provides TiVo (and ReplayTV) with their guide data. If it is on
the site, then it should be on the TiVo.

And check your Channels list - it may be in there but not checked as a
channel you receive.

If you are confident it is *not* in any line-up available on your
TiVo, then report it: http://www.tivo.com/lineup

Use 'left' to exit the program. That'll take you back to the NPL (if
you started watching by pressing 'Play' in NPL) or the Program Details
screen (if you started playing it from there). Either way, then you
can hit 'Clear' on the remote and delete. So it is 'Left' then
'Clear'.

And if you exit in the last five minutes of a recording then you get
the keep or delete prompt, so you can do it from there too.

Have you tried the new TiVo Desktop 2.6 with the auto-transfers to the
TiVo? That's nice for downloads - they just show up in your NPL like
other recordings.
