Most TV's have more than one input on the back (and sometimes one on the
front). The TV's own remote should have a button (or buttons) that lets you
change it. The Tivo remote also has one that should work (but this varies
depending on the TV). So you press the TV input button to change the input
on the TV. Usually you press it several times to step through the inputs
until you get back to the one for the Tivo.

You can thank the DVD publishing companies for the copy protection they put
on the discs for causing this.

What make/model TV is this? And does it happen on all DVDs or just a few of
them?
