So many mails on this thread. Nice to know different angles we can think from.
Probably in a hurry, I could not write more. I thought I will let others know
about that.
The lady is working as an Aaya in our hospital. There are 2 types of aayas
here. One type are on the payroll (and hence they like any other employee, have
leaves of different type, PF and others) and the other group are contract
employees. They get 90 Rupees for 8 and half hour work.If they dont turn up for
duty one day, it is simply a loss of pay. They dont have holidays/leaves. Daily
wage workers.

Why I offered her bus fare (not pass, which would be 350 per month and that
lady herself told that it would be a loss to go for a pass since Rs.3/- is the
only cost for one side travel. Assuming 25 working days, I gave her Rs.150 and
thats what I will give her every month) is that in case she falls sick because
of this heat outside (because of her walking down so long), she wont be able to
come to work and will lose Rs.90 which matters a lot to her. I cannot convert
her to a regular employee because we have stopped hiring regular employees in
housekeeping because of some technical issues.

About the father: Father does not take money from the mother. He simply feels
that spending money on daughter's education is a wasteful expense, hence need
to be stopped. He feels if he will give money at home, it may well be utilised
for the education of the kids also. And because of his drinking habits, he is
not able to save anything for the future of the daughters. So here the point is
that if we take care of the education part, then the father wont be
pressurising mother for money because he never cared for their education
neither he is aware how much his wife earns. (Here I want to say something. Mr.
Sam Vonumu must be a great human being and I do not have necessary knowledge to
debate on his policy of not supporting DRUNKARD's kids. But in my small
experience with life, I know its not the fault of the kids to be born to
drunkards. But still they have a right to get the basic education and because
of their interest on education, I (and other few) would like to help.
So please forget about VONUMU international as the subject here, does not
qualify for that. And lets not refer to them as DRUNKARD's children. It sounds a
bit offending).

Suresh, you are not cynical by asking which private school charges Rs.5000
per year for 2 kids? You are not cynical because you and me will never imagine
such schools does exist and even if they do, then probably we will not send our
kids to those. Still they do exist and one such school is VYAYAMSHALA SCHOOL,
Nampally. The kids are now in LKG (Chikitha) and Standard -1 (Nikitha) and we
are talking about next academic year only. So next year one will go to UKG and
the other one will go to Standard-2. Monthly fee of one kid is Rs.150 per month
and the other is Rs.160pm. Total Rs.310 pm x 12=3720. Plus books would be
approximately Rs. 500 for one and 800 for the other. So roughly it would be
Rs.1300 plus tuition fee of Rs.3700 equivalent to Rs.5000 for the whole year.
And I suggested her that as we will be taking care of these things, she can
take care of uniform, shoes and note books.

Now I think this Rs.5000 funda is clear to all. This is for the coming
academic year and if we discuss from now onwards, we can get some fund by the
time of readmission.

I strongly agree with one of the remarks made in one mail (I forgot who had
written that) that our funds are NOT UNLIMITED and that there could be even
more poorer and needy student to be considered. Because I too say the same for
medical cases even though I feel they need to be taken up. I feel the quantum
of money we are donating to one patient, can be utilised for the education of
many kids for a year. As this case came to my notice, hence I thought of
discussing with others about it.

If we have any more needy case at present(or if we are planning to look out
for such cases), then funds may be relocated for those. I have started giving
monthly Rs.150 to her and one friend of mine has agreed to pay Rs.2000 for this
case. So if we can take up this case too, it is okay, and in case we want a
better utilisation of that money, I am with it.

  Ratan
