Chandra's Response:
Prasanthi:
This is one of the long term goals/dreams even for me - to set up
a Children/Old age home and I agree with you,Sowmya,Prasad that we
have to do a lot of home work before really starting one.I agree
with you on rather than focusing on problems , focus on solution/what
need to be done to make all of our dream into a reality. One more I
like the name that you didn't call it 'orphange' .Somehow I don't
calling anyone an orphan. No one should feel as an orphan. This point
was raised by some kids[8-12 years old] that Krishna Murthy uncle
[Prasanthi knows about him] and they asked him to change name.
In my opinion even Early 2009 might be bit early. I don't agree
with your cousin Venu's comments- I don't think we have wasted any
time.I feel we still have lot of streamlining work to do before we
can start serious project like this.Unlike other education/medical
cases where its just one time/window activity, this is kind of daily
activity and we have to plan it to continue even after our life time
or atleast to run it without interruptions for the next 30-40
years. But at the same time, I don't mean to wait on activities
untill we have every detail/every resource needed to run this.
I am not sure how practical is the idea of getting money back once
its established also.I will be more than happy to see it sustaining
on its own once its established within 2-3 years.Unlike other cases
where people can get on and off based on their availability, I feel
atleast 1-2 people always need to be available at any time to look
after any emergencies that might pop up, esp given its going to be
kids, be their health concerns or something like that. For example in
our homes, even to bring up 1-2 kids parents struggle a lot
initially. So with more kids its not going to be any easier.
I completely agree on teaching them skills necessary to manage life
challenges rather than just state/cental syllabus alone. But at the
same time we can't ignore that part given the circumstances. It need
not be something like teaching them byhearting for exams , but they
need to learn maths, sciences ,englsih etc to get through competetive
exams.
Instead of jumping onto setting up our own directly and setting
deadline that we have to start by early 2009, how about doing this
research in parallel and at the same time trying to implement some of
these ideas at one or two selected orphanages. If we select one or two
existing Children homes based on our research and if funds are
necessary to implement them, I can sponsor upto 50% myself and I
can try to raise funds through friends and I sure everyone else on
the lsit are also willing.
Thanks,
Chandra.
