>From Sowmya:

Hi All

Hmm... I had this dream long back...but realising my limitations,
side-tracked it. Now that this discussion came up, those thoughts are
back :) Here are my thoughts.

Financial Sustenance:
We should run an ideal Children-Old Age Home which sustains on its
own and does not depend on outside contributions except for the
initial two years. Whatever we spent on the initial two years we
should be able to get back in the next three years. This is something
like we are lending the money and taking it back without any interest.
- Thats an excellent dream. Yes, it should sustain on its own...but,
a group should always be there in the background, incase theres some
emergency.

Education:
Enough with the current system of education. We should think of
progressive system which makes them confident human beings and their
courage and hope of life shouldn't depend on the money they earn.
- Hmm... but, how many will be ready? I would rather say, continue
with the way all others in the state are getting educated and just
add to it. Say change the teaching approach.... or the atmosphere
etc. Let the kids not be guinea pigs for all our experiments. I know
I may be sounding very discouraging...but, I am trying to be
practical.

Also the livelihoods should be traditional and our own. We should not
teach them to be employed in BPOs. They shouldn't get affected by the
IT/BPO tides.
- Whatever we teach, we should be able to give them inputs in such a
way that they can lead a comfortable life in future.

More Details

Place:

- How are we to search for the place? Any ideas?

1. We will teach them different languages, a minimum of 5.
(Telugu, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu and a foreign language)

- on an average, how many languages will a single child learn from
among these 5?

2. Coming to Mathematics, Science and Social, we should have a novel
approach.
(We should take the advice of trained teachers and we also should
analyse the syllabus (both State and Central))
-This needs more research in to educational strategies. I will try
to contact Ashakiran people and ask about their contacts.

Basically what I feel is that we shouldn't rub them with unnecessary
and unwanted load. What is useful to them in regular life is what we
teach.

- All this is indeed Utopian for me, going by the current
scenario...but then, some times un-necessary things also might come
to some use. :)

See now the Govts. are planning for Integrated Intermediate that
enables them to join PG without Graduation. We are wasting lot of
time.
- I dint get wat u meant!

Extracurricular

We will teach them
- Good idea... but then, yeah... lots of research needs to be done
for all these.....

A simultaneous old age home is also run but not in the sense of

 - Thats an excellent idea. --

Finally, all this requires spending some quality amount of time
analysing and researching on how to run the home(s) and sustaining
them. I don't know how to begin..but, then, I can do whatever that i
can in this endeavour, provided i get some guidance.
