Not really: the current rules dictate how package names are constructed:

I can live with that, but as I said: it's better to get a `no' earlier than
later.

I think it is, but hasn't been followed consistently, even by parts of Sun,
which created a terrible mess.  E.g., have a look at the terrible mess CAM
(the Common Array Manager) creates in /opt.
