I have had some similar problems (also with a Smasung Story Station - 1.5T)/ more often it hangs on searching media formusic files.
However I have managed to scan in 25000 music files, from some 60,000 files on the drive. My current inclinations are:- whilst scanning, do nothing else! don't share the USB drive (and start tidying it up) don't play music don't load new applets don't search for music Some of these maybe overkill but suggest that you let at least one scan succeed before any messing (which is hard with a new toy!!)
