This morning I power cycled the Touch (to activate the Android font I installed for Chinese text that was wiped out by the reset). When it boots up, I was again greeted with a blank screen, right before where the intro sound was supposed to play.
This time, knowing better, I simply touched the screen, and it showed a clock with a power icon in the top left corner. The clock is not the same clock with dates that you see when you power off the unit, but just a simple time in the middle of the screen. I can reproduce it this way: 1) remove the power from the touch 2) re-insert the power into the unit 3) the unit will go through the power-up sequence 4) right after it shows the "free your music" (and the screen brightness changes a bit to reflect the light sensor functioning?), but before it starts to play the intro music, the display goes blank. Press the power on the remote does not seem to do anything. Display remains blank. 5) touch the screen, and you'll see a clock w/ power icon on the top. Press the power icon, and touch will go into the standard menu screen. I think it's the blank screen in #4 that throw me off initially and I thought the unit was bricked since it does not respond to the remote. Holding the reset button will trigger a factory default, and it does boot up all the way with the intro sound playing.
