The AKM4420 DAC/buffer is pretty decent and doesn't require an op amp to drive your preamp. I have Touches in two systems, one by itself with a NAD C-160 preamp, Threshold Stasis 3 amp driving Acoustat 1+1 electrostats and another used as transport only with an Audio Research DAC7 into an Audio Research SP-9MKIII using VTL MB-450 amps driving Sound Lab U-1 electrostats.
I'm extremely pleased with the sound quality in both systems. An external DAC can clearly be better, but you have to spend some $$$ in order to realize the difference. As a transport, they are excellent - once you strip down the superfluous player functions, use a reasonably powerful server and let the server do the decompression. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ E-Stat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58497 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97483 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
