Although I don't entirely disagree with you, I'd say that not ALL
external DACs are a waste of time. They can be critical if one is trying
to feed audio from a PC to stereo or active speakers and one wants to
avoid a crappy soundcard in the PC.  What it takes for an external DAC
to be better than the TOUCH internal DAC in particular is a good
question and certainly the TOUCH DAC is known to be very good.
