I run my SBT via coax (without EDO) to an apparently well-thought-of DAC: TEAC UD-501.
And I can't tell the difference between that and the onboard DAC. I also have the TEAC HA-501 headphone amp, fed via balanced XLR from the DAC, yet I also can't tell the difference between it, and plugging my headphones directly into the DAC. Why did I buy the DAC? Because it also functions as a pre-amp of sorts, into which I also run my Chromecast Audio, and my lappie. And the headphone amp? because I like TEAC and have always wanted one. Oh, and it says Class A. And they both look great. oh, and they were both cheap on eBay, second-hand but as new. I was lucky. Do I like having them? Enormously. Do they sound better? I dunno - don't think I can tell the difference, no. Snake oil? Not for me, because I know the reality, and accept I can't tell the difference...
