Gary, I think the suggestion of using the old router is causing
significant confusion to the OP, and is a quite unnecessary and messy
complication. The wifi in these tplink plugs works well and is really
simple to set up via a web browser once the plugs are plugged in and
working via the normal powerline to ethernet functionality.

Dalyeb: The thing you need to do is discover the ip address of the plug.
For that I recommend installing the free smartphone app 'fing' (android
and ios). The plug will show as "TP-link" and "generic" - it should be
easy to spot unless you have a lot of tplink networking gear...
