I have not been explicit about the error messages and behavior that I expressed as "not allowed to play music at all," nor "it will not play the music on the USB thumb drive in the Touch." These were not casual observations, but I see the desirability of making them more clearly.
I will repeat the experiments that led to these statements in a week or so....I expect to say at that time something about how, with internet connectivity, I got x stoppages in y days (such as 0 in 9) while with a startup practice of foregoing internet connection, stoppage occurred an average of every x2 days in y2 experiments (such as 5 in 4). Perhaps my hypothesis that 'phone home' is required, while it agrees with observations so far, is not true.
