I'm often on IRC, but I often don't have the time to follow or  
participate in all the discussions. Also, the signal/noise ratio on  
IRC is pretty bad.

The Trac project has traditionally relied heavily on IRC for developer  
discussions, but that's something I've never been comfortable with.
