I like your suggestions, Keith and Michael. You have giving me a better understanding! Thanks!
I better understand the concept of TEMP1-1 as well. I going to start with this setup once the trip is done; N7FMH-9,WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1. For now, once I am out of the range of my PNRDVL fill-in, it won't be an issue. It has the most potential for getting the job done. The thinking is since the car at 40W doesn't make a high digi without the help of my home fill-in, it is unlikely the HT will hit the car and then a full digi. So it really does need to go through two fill-ins: vehicle and then the fixed station. But, No WIDE1-2 here! :D This setup will keep all of the other fill-ins from lighting up as well (all zero of them). :D I have the only fill-in around at the last check. > The purpose of a fill-in WIDE1-1 digi is to help get you go a high WIDEn-N > digi. This does assume you can get to the fill-in at least. Which was one of the issues last night. I could not hit any fill-in except the car. Anyway, I understand the WIDE1-(>1) issue and will not use it. > > For the WIDE1-1, they are now: > > USEALIAS 1:ON > > ALIAS 1:WIDE1 > > HOPLIMIT 1:1 > > DIGIID 1:ON > > DUPETIME 30 > > That all looks OK for a fill-in digi. I updated it at lunch and it works as planned. The HT detected returned beacons. From where the car is parked I get into a digipeater sporatically so I don't really expect the HT to make it all the way to a digipeater. The ride home should be telling. > > I thought it would be interesting to collect data from a 'timed' > > tracked and overlay it on a SmartBeaconing track. > I don't think it would really prove a lot. The HT (going through the T2) > would be basically a 40W tracker with fixed timing. The use is really for showing someone on a Powerpoint slide the effects of timed versus smart timing for the purpose of the network benefits. Not everyone is easily convinced that Smartbeaconing is good. Some will run timed just because it requires no thinking. By having -7 and -9 running at the same time, the data reflects the same route and travel time. And, the beacons are easily counted. > > From PNRDVL to just east of W1CNH-5 in the circular mountain range. It is a > > really old extinct volcano I believe. > > I'll be watching! Good luck with the experimenting. I was close to your neck of the woods back in 1988. I visited Seattle and drove back home up and around Olympic National Park. It sure is pretty! We wanted to catch a ferry across to Vancouver but didn't have the time. Maybe another time. Thanks again! Best regards, Fred
