The other good test (although you only get one test per 30 minutes) is to send a message to CQSRVR. Make the text something like (yes, that's CQ four times):
"CQ CQ CQ CQ from SomewhereVille, Region Country" You should get an ack followed by a message from the server indicating how many others are in the CQ group currently.
