I have used the GTRANS cable and a NUVI 350 on my ICOM 880 and it works great.
But you have to reverse the tip and ring, or make a NULL modem adaptor. It does NOT put other APRS stations on the 350 as waypoints however. Not directly, but you can with the GTRANS cable. If the D-Star radio is one of those that uses a 2.5mm plug, you can use the Kenwood style GTRANS but you have to switch two wires.
