Messaging between the Nuvi/T2 and the TM710A would be going completely over local RF. That's a very good way to make sure that the station(s) under your control are actually working correctly. Great job! That should work well for you at JOTA, as long as you can keep things all RF/digi and keep away from APRS-IS (the Internet).
Your expectations and hopes of being able to message between the Nuvi/T2 and UI-View on APRS-IS rely on the local IGating infrastructure which is spotty at best. One-way (receive-only) Igates will drive you to distraction when trying to do messaging. Messages will get from your Nuvi/T2 to the Internet-bridged recipient, but will retry forever. Messages the other way just seem to drop into the black hole and never get anywhere. Contact your local IGate operator(s) and see if s/he/they is/are gating messages from Internet to RF. If not, that can explain a bunch of your frustrations! Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ
