Teddy,

Don't kick yourself about this!  I am new to APRS in the last month.  I find it
dificult to separate the old data from the newer, and every location is
different, depending on the setup of the local digis.  Further, the TNC's built
for APRS tracking and messaging are not always full featured and each is
different in some way.

When I was starting, I found some old data recommending the Paccomm PicoPacket
and two days after I bought one on eBay I found the OT2m.  The combination of
tracking, waypoints on the GPS and messaging seemed too good to pass up so I
bought an OT2m and a Nuvi.  But there are disadvantages with that
configuration.  The biggest one, IMO is that once a waypoint is plotted, it is
in your favorites and on your screen forever.  To keep your screen current, you
have to delete all your waypoints periodically.  The problem is different when
traveling, another workaround is to set maxrange to 5 or 10 miles, then any
waypoint you see near you or in front of you on the screen as you drive should
be in radio range.

I guess what I am saying is there are a lot of subtleties in the use of this
system, and the only way to come to understand them is to use it.  That's what
you are doing, and you are learning along the way, as are we all.

Al K5TAN

Well I guess I was going about it all wrong, when I sent a message to it from,
and to,  my Kenwood TM710A, it worked as it should, I guess I did not know how
the messaging part worked, I thought one could send a message from say UI-VIEW,
to the Nuvi, and from the Nuvi to UI-VIEW, this appears not to be the case, I
guess I am too stupid to use APRS. I appreciate all the effort that was put
into working on with me, it's sad that I don't  understand the technical side
of APRS, I did change the BMODE to Auto, I am glad it is working though, as I
plan to take it to a Boy Scout JOTA function at our local Lake on the 17th to
demonstrate what one can do with APRS. imagine me doing that.

Good point - I don't have a clue what it does if A side is set to Garmin.
Maybe the T2 doesn't either :)

That is what I suspect, but I was not sure if that applied when AMODE was set
to Garmin.
