That's because the information is in loop 2000B, field SBR02.

Remember that there are two variants, one if the subscriber is the patient (SBR02 =
18, patient info in loop 2000B, loop 2000C absent), and one if the subscriber is not
the patient (SBR02 omitted, loop(s) 2000C [starting with the HL segment] present &
containing the patient info). Also note that there can be more than one Patient for
the same Subscriber. If the Subscriber is one of the patients, his info (in loop
2000B0 and all the 23xx & 24xx Loops relating to claim(s) with the Subscriber as the
Patient will be before the HL segemnt(s) for other Patient(s) related to the
Subscriber.

I handle the situation by starting each new claim with loop 2000B, and ignoring the
possibility of multiple Patients, because my system would have a very hard time
identifying 2 calims that would be a possible candidate for the multiple-patient
structure. Just because the IG supports the complexity does not mandate that you have
to use it.

Subject: 837p Patient Relationship To Insured

Hi,
(In Loop 2000C, segment PAT, element 1069 on page 155 , 156 of the IG) There is no
code for patients relationship to insured if the patient is the insured
which would be SELF. What are other people coding in this instance?
Thank you for any assistance.
Paulette Drafts
