Hello to all, In addition to the below i want to make clear that EMC certification in Europe for CE-marking can be done by 2 methods acc. to articles 10.1 and 10.2 of the EMC-directive. 10.1 is the self certification route. 10.2 requires the help of a competent body (accredited test house), and after compliance registration at the notified body. Note the difference between the 2 bodies. One is testing and the other one is registration. They can be in one company however in 2 independent departments.
Self-certification can be done if a suitable "harmonized standard" has been published in the Official Journal of the CE. A list of readily published standards can be found on my website ! (http://www.cetest.nl/emc-harm.htm) Very often however a apparatus does not fulfill the requirements of the scope of any or part of a harmonized standard. In that case route 10.2 should be used. This is the case in apparatus that are large. Or in lots of different versions available (but essentially the same). Example: for emission measurements a measuring distance of 10 meters is prescribed; how to test acc. to EN 55022 (harmonized for ITE) a very large computer system over 10 meters large. Where to place the antenna? The distiction between household or light industrial versus heavy industrial is of no relevance here. Hope to be of help to most of you! Ing. I believe (verify my answer someone), that EMC compliance in Europe is done through Self-Declaration. This is, of course, if the equipment falls under the EMC directive. Medical equipment, for instance, might be a whole other ballgame. Light Industrial, I believe, is something you can self-declare. Mel Pedersen Midcom, Inc. Hi from Montreal Question: For a product (flight simulator) which would seem to be in the "light industrial" category, does EMC (CE) certification through the TECHNICAL CONSTRUCTION FILE path require NOTIFIED BODY or COMPETENT BODY involvement?
