Just after having familiarized myself with the content of Directive 98/13/EC relating to telecommunications terminal equipment and satellite earth station equipment, including the mutulal recognition of their conformity, I received a copy of Common position (EC) No. 39/98, promising to replace that Directive with Directive 98/.../EC on radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment and the mutual recognition of their conformity. (8 June 1998).
Can anybody explain to me what the rationale was for issuing a Directive in February 1998 that is proposed to be replaced in 1998, as stated in a Common Position of the EC on 8 June 1998. The latter talks about the R&TTE Directive we all have seen in various incarnations already over the last couple of years and knew to be coming. The proposed R&TTE Directive talks about "Notified Interfaces". The Council Decision of 15 July, 1998 accepting CTR21, starts talking about "Notified Networks". Should I assume that they meant "Notified Interfaces" or was I missing something ?? By the way, if our Canadian experience with "Notified Interfaces" is any indication, one can have a lot of fun with what is and what isn't a timely and adequate disclosure of new interfaces. A growth industry for consultants. Thanks, Vic
