Thanks to all who stressed that the requirement is that the equipment be safe, not that it meets the requirements of any standard. From a legal liability perspective, these standards are in aid but not the absolute requirement.
Industry begged regulators to get us out of the cookie cutter mode into a more intelligent way of looking after safety. Don't spoil it by asking for cookie cutters again. It is the responsibility of the "approvals" group in each organization to ensure itself that any product coming out of the plant meets the intent of the regulations, and understand what that means. Getting the required seals of approval is a secondary issue. If you do your job properly you will lead an interesting life moving from company to company. Ciao, Vic
