Oh, and one other misconception that seemed to be bothering some people: Sprint was _not_ cancelling these account holders and then charging them any termination fees. As I understand it, Sprint was effectively cancelling the accounts, zeroing out balances, and basically saying "bye" with no strings attached. IOW, the contract was cancelled and all financial responsibilities were waived. There may be some subtleties I'm not aware of there, but that's what I understood. So, all the debate about charging them for future use is moot -- Sprint isn't doing that.
And to remind everyone, I'm not a Sprint apologist -- I've publicly aired my own beefs (http://www.gearbits.com/archives/2007/05/calling_shenani.html) but do believe that trimming off "bad" customers in an ethically appropriate way is sound business.
