<What would take someone more than 3 weeks to get a new phone contract >

What if I just got back from 3 weeks in Australia to find I've no phone and
no-one has my number anymore because its been given away? Welcome home.

<How exactly does that avoid the "inconvenience... >

If my contract is coming up and I've been mistreated, I'll likely already be
considering other companies. Most people are aware of the length of their
contracts. Additionally, by Sprint waiting for the contract to expire, an
oportunity is created for the customer to make a choice. "You've called more
than we (Sprint) can accomodate this month (Sprint can inform customers as soon
as the "excessive" calling starts, perhaps even offer a cease and disist
option-Sprint would now be acting not only ethically but responsibly)."

"If you elect to terminate your contract within 3 weeks" the letter continues,
"Sprint will waive any fee. Otherwise, Sprint is now informing you that we will
not renew your service contract."

Just as car insurance co.s don't renew drivers with bad records' policies,
this develops communication between both parties rather than strong-arming
customers out of their right to choose.
