I have a 680, purchased unlocked directly from Palm.  It works just
fine for me.

When you upgraded to it, did you simply do a "restore" to it with
whatever files/data you had on your prior device?  If so, that's
probably the problem, you need to do a clean install of your apps and
the data that goes with those apps.  Do NOT "restore" or install any
system-specific files, which include, but may not be limited to, the
Preferences file.
